Coordinating the UN's work on water and sanitation

UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate

The UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate formed in 2007 to mobilize business leaders to advance water stewardship, sanitation, and the Sustainable Development Goals in partnership with the United Nations, governments, peers, civil society, and others.

Via it’s newly launched Water Security through Stewardship Action Platform, the Mandate looks to support SDG6 and its touchpoint with other water-related SDGs by working with companies to implement good water stewardship practices that span internal operations to external and value chain engagements across the social, environmental, and economic dimensions of water.

The Mandate develops tools and resources, convenes stakeholders, and facilitates meaningful partnerships and on-the-ground collective actions that improve conditions in at-risk river basins around the world.  The work streams of the Action Platform tackle a variety of issues from climate-water nexus, to WASH, human rights, and corporate water target setting that lead to meaningful change in key regions.

Estimated annual water and sanitation budget: $1-10 million USD
