Coordinating the UN's work on water and sanitation

Using SDG data to support science, technology and innovation: the SDG 6 example

From 14-15 May 2019, the 4th annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum), is hosted at the UN Headquarters in New York.
During the Forum, UN-Water will host the side event Using SDG data to support science, technology and innovation – the SDG 6 example, where one of the new products of the UN-Water Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6 and UN-Water – the SDG 6 Data Portal will be presented.

In this portal, data on all the SDG 6 global indicators are brought together, as well as other key social, economic and environmental data. And through the SDG 6 Data Portal, data is translated to information, to build awareness, and encourage politicians, public bodies, the private sector and civil society to engage in understanding the problems and finding solutions to the stark reality of 844 million people still lack basic water services; 2.1 billion lack safely-managed drinking water and 4.5 billion – substantially more than half the world’s population – still lack access to safely-managed sanitation.
