Workshop hosted on Water Cooperation in the context of SDG 6

Earlier this year UNESCO and UNECE organized a workshop on Water Cooperation in the context of SDG 6 indicators 6.5.2 (Water Cooperation) and 6.5.1 (Integrated Water Resources Management-IWRM).
The workshop was organized as part of a series of thematic and sub-regional workshops dedicated to supporting Member States in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.

UNESCO and UNECE, as co-custodian Agencies for the monitoring of SDG indicator 6.5.2 have already organized two workshops in Africa and South America, and additional workshops are planned to take place in other regions. The workshop also counted with the participation of UN Environment, custodian Agency for SDG indicator 6.5.1.

The main objective of the meeting was to give the opportunity to participants from countries mainly located in the Mediterranean, Caucasus and Central Asia regions, to share their experiences regarding transboundary water cooperation and Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), receive information about the results of the first reporting cycle of indicators 6.5.2 and 6.5.1, and discuss the next steps to be taken in preparation of the next monitoring cycle of the two indicators, which will begin in 2019.
